Dr. Daniel Hale Williams (1856-1931) founded the Provident Hospital & Training School in 1891 and was the first person to perform a successful open heart operation.
So much of our history is kept from us as African Americans because there is still a majority that would like us to believe that our history from 1536-present day, ONLY consists of us being slaves, pimps, drug users/dealers, prostitutes, gang bangers, athletes and musicians. But our history also consists of great accomplishments in medicine, inventions, architecture, law, politics and science.
My point is, sometimes you have to dig to know your history because we have been conditioned to believe that are great accomplishments are in recent time NOT HISTORICALLY and that is simply untrue!
