The Haitian Revolution began in 1791 and ended January 1, 1804.
It was the only rebellion to liberate an entire slave population. They overthrew the white planter class and defeated the Spanish & British forces.
This revolution was largely attributable to General Toussaint L'Ouverture, a former slave.
